Filipino folklore is rich with innumerable tales about a giant, cigar-smoking presence perched on large branches of massive trees. Known locally as the “kapre”, this mythical figure has long been portrayed as a dark-skinned ogre who quietly smokes a leg-sized cigar that never burns out.
He is known to terrify anyone who crosses his path but is otherwise harmless. Here in the city, the kapre welcomes fellow tobacco-lovers to Fuma, a one-stop shop that offers everything to anyone who appreciates a good puff but exhibits no interest in doing it atop trees.
